The future of electrical engineering is bright, driven by trends like renewable energy, electric vehicles, smart grids and 5G, the integration of AI and IoT. The field also offers diverse career paths and research to develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable and technologically advanced world. With these views Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Bishop Jerome Institute, organized a five-day online FDP on Electrical Engineering and Beyond: Research Prospects. The objective of FDP is to enhance the academic and research capabilities of faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students. The program aimed to encourage research in faculty and to identify new and possible areas of research. Renowned experts from UAE university, Khalifa university, Anna University and APJ Abdul Kalam KTU shared insights and their best practices. Faculty members from renowned institutions from Kerala and Tamil Nadu participated and engaged in the discussions. The event was a grant success with 68 participants from inside and outside Kerala.

Day 1 [ 07.07.2025, Monday]

Dr. Pretty Mary Tom, Head of the Department, Electrical and Electronics Engineering,  Bishop Jerome Institute welcomed the gathering. Dr Anil A R, Principal, Bishop Jerome Institute inaugurated the FDP and wished for the success of the event. The session on day 1 was handled by Dr. Soumya AV, Associate Professor, EEE Department, MBCET, Trivandrum on the topic “Smart Grid  Implementation: Challenges, Innovations, and Research Opportunities”. The session was very interesting and interactive. 

Day 2 [ 08.07.2025, Tuesday]

Asst. Professor Beena Varghese welcomed the resource person of the day Dr. Nirmal Mukundan, Post Doctoral Researcher, Khalifa University, UAE. Dr. Nirmal Mukundan explained in detail about the “Solar Energy Conversion: Riding the wave of Innovation”. The session was very informative

Day 3 [09.07.2025, Wednesday]

Professor Dr. Channu Lal welcomed the resource person, Dr. Amulya V, Post Doctoral Researcher, UAE University. She enriched the faculty members with the topic “Energy Digital Twin”, which was very interesting and informative.

Day 4 [ 10.07.2025, Thursday]

Asst. Professor Sanjai Steve Stanly welcomed the resource person of the third day, Dr. Bijuna  Kunju K , Professor, TKM College of Engineering, Karicode, Kollam. The session was on the

topic “Applications of Electric Vehicles in Energy Management”. The emerging trends in EV and its application in energy management was briefly explained within a short period of time.

Day 5 [11.07.2025, Friday]

Asst. Professor Rahul R welcomed the resource person of the final session, Dr. Marsaline  Beno, Dean of Research, St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Nagercoil. The topic of

the day was on the trending” Green Technologies and Circular Economy in EEE Asst. Professor Telma Johnson hosted the validatory function and the Event co-ordinator, Asst. Professor Tensy Thomas concluded the session by expressing the thanks and gratitude to the participants and resource persons.
