As we all know,The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is Asia`s largest multi-disciplinary professional society in the engineering and technology world. We have inaugurated the Student’s Chapter of The Institution of Engineers (India) in the Civil Engineering Department of Bishop Jerome Institute, Kollam on 21st of August 2024 in presence of all students member under the announcement of honorable guests. An objective to help the student community to assimilate the recent developments in the emerging fields and to improve the leadership qualities. The Chapter Code No. for Civil Engineering Department is 691001/BJI/CV. A total of 30+ students of second, third and fourth year Civil Engineering are the members of this Chapter. The inaugural ceremony began with a welcome address by Prof. Athira Sidharthan Faculty Advisor, IEI students’ chapter BJI.

The Manager of Bishop Jerome Institute Rev. Fr. Benjamine Palliyadiyil, declared the opening of Students Chapter and delivered the inaugural address. The chief guest of the event Dr Madhusoodanan Pillai, Hon. Chairman, IEI Kollam Local centre addressed the students about their National responsibilities and motivated them to conduct the events regarding it. This event was conducted under the presence of Dr. Roshan Kumar , Principal BJI, Dr. Sudhi Mary Kurian Hon. Secretary, IEI Kollam Local Centre ;Dean & Head of the Civil Engineering Dept. The highlight of the function was honouring the toppers in the three batches by our chief guest

The inaugural function came to an end with vote of thanks by Miss Lekshmi Vijayan Student representative, IEI Students’ Chapter. The program was also followed by an alumni talk by Dr. Babitha Benjamin Alumni-CE, BJI, Research Associate, CSIR-SERC. Students were inspired by Alumni speech. The program was grand success & paved way for many such endeavors in future.

Energy Conservation Day, 2024

National Energy conservation day (NECD) is celebrated on the December 14^th every year to raise awareness about the importance of energy conservation and efficiency. The day also showcases the country’s achievements in energy conservation and efficiency.

To mark this significant occasion, we, the IEI Civil Engineering Students chapter of Bishop Jerome Institute, Kollam organised a half day seminar on the theme” Energy Saved is energy generated”. A part of celebration, an inter-college Quiz completion has conducted on the theme of energy conservation and sustainability followed by a technical session of 1 hour by Mr. Dinesh Kumar A N, Joint Director, Energy Management Centre, Trivandrum. On the 13^th of December 2024, Friday from 9:30 to 12:30 at the 6^th floor seminar hall.

The preliminary round for the quiz was conducted in the online mode on 5^th December 2024 in which 7 teams from different colleges including TKM and TKMIT had participated. The 5 finalist were declared on the 8^th of December 2024 who had to appear for the on stage quiz competition on the final day of the program. The Quiz was led by Dr. Sudheer A, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering from TKM college, Kollam. in a very effective and interactive manner

The quiz had 4 rounds and came to an end with the teams from BJI, kollam and TKM Kollam with first and second positions respectively wining cash prizes of Rs 2000/- and Rs 1000/-.

After the tea break of 10 minutes, the celebration continued with a very interesting technical session by Mr. Dinesh Kumar A N, Joint Director, Energy Management Centre, Trivandrum.

The speaker was introduced by Dean and Head of the Department of Civil engineering Dr. Sudhi Mary Kurian. The event had more than 100 audience which included students from various branches including Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and BArch. Ms. Parvathy S, student member of IE(I) from S8 CE, concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks to everyone for making the event a grand success.
