KOLLAM, KERALA – The Department of Civil Engineering at Bishop Jerome Institute (BJI), Kollam, in exclusive collaboration with the prestigious Indian Institute of Infrastructure & Construction (IIIC), Chavara, Kerala, has officially announced an extensive 6-Day Offline Faculty Development Program (FDP).

Titled "Bridging Academia and Industry: Emerging Technologies and Professional Skills in Civil Engineering," this intensive hands-on academic training program is scheduled to take place on June 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, and 29, 2026.

As the global infrastructure and construction sectors face rapid digital disruptions, engineering educators must stay lockstep with the latest technical trends. This joint educational initiative is carefully designed to upskill engineering faculty, researchers, and field specialists with real-world industry tools, structural site visits, and critical engineering competencies.

Core Pillars of the FDP

This collaborative program directly addresses the widening gaps between traditional academic engineering curricula and contemporary project execution frameworks. The schedule is structured around four primary pillars:

  1. Emerging Technologies: Master modern field automation, data capture, and virtual modeling tools.

  2. Industry Insights: First-hand inspection of complex structural engineering projects and industrial workflows.

  3. Professional Skills: Upgrading hands-on training competencies required to make engineering graduates industry-ready.

  4. Networking Opportunities: Building strong pipelines between engineering institutions, research scholars, and industry leaders.

Key Program Attractions & Syllabus Details

Unlike typical theoretical workshops, this BJI and IIIC joint venture is heavy on hands-on deployment and on-site field demonstrations:

1. BIM (Building Information Modeling) Hands-on Session

Participants will explore multi-dimensional spatial modeling, architectural design collaboration, and project management sequencing frameworks to understand modern infrastructure asset lifecycles.

2. Advanced Survey & GIS Workshop

A deep dive into Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on spatial data analysis, topographic mapping, and terrain data modeling using standard modern software interfaces.

3. Drone Survey & Photogrammetry Demonstration

A live, interactive operational field demonstration on deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for engineering surveys, high-resolution aerial mapping, and automated site monitoring.

4. PB Steel Structures Industrial Visit

An exclusive practical tour of a Pre-Engineered Building (PEB) and modern steel fabrication site, analyzing advanced engineering design, safety practices, and swift assembly mechanics.

5. Punnamada Bow String Structure Site Visit

An analytical structural engineering evaluation of the iconic Bow String bridge structure at Punnamada. Attendees will inspect design mechanics, foundation frameworks, and execution challenges.

6. Expert Talks & Industry Interactions

Engaging interactive dialogue sessions featuring veteran structural consultants, public works engineers, and premier research academics discussing disruptive modern structural paradigms.
