KOLLAM, March 8, 2026 – Bishop Jerome Institute (BJI) proudly joined the global community today in observing International Women’s Day, a momentous occasion dedicated to honoring the achievements of women and accelerating the journey toward gender equality.

As we reflect on this year’s United Nations theme, "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls," the BJI community came together to recognize that equality is not just a goal—it is a fundamental necessity for a thriving society.

Why International Women’s Day Matters

International Women’s Day is far more than a day of celebration; it is a vital call to action. Originating from the labor and suffrage movements of the early 20th century, the day serves as a global reminder of the persistent work required to bridge the gender gap.

At BJI, we recognize the importance of this day for several key reasons:

  • Celebrating Progress: It honors the remarkable contributions women have made in science, technology, leadership, arts, and beyond.

  • Highlighting Ongoing Challenges: It brings critical focus to systemic issues like the gender pay gap, educational disparities, and the ongoing struggle for legal justice.

  • A Catalyst for Change: The day serves as a platform to demand accountability and reform, ensuring that the rights of women and girls are not just written in policy, but experienced in practice.

  • Fostering Solidarity: By adopting themes like the global "Give To Gain" campaign, we emphasize that when we share knowledge, opportunities, and resources, we uplift not just women, but the entire community.

Empowering the Next Generation at BJI

Within our own halls—from the Department of Architecture to our various technical and management wings—the women of BJI are breaking barriers every day. Today was an opportunity to celebrate these students and faculty who continue to challenge stereotypes and strive for excellence.

Key Highlights of the Day:

  • Advocacy & Awareness: Seminars focused on the importance of "Legal Justice" and understanding the structural changes needed to ensure equality for all.

  • Honoring Contributions: Faculty and staff were recognized for their tireless dedication in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and intellectually stimulating environment for all students.

  • Commitment to Action: The BJI student body reaffirmed its pledge to be allies in the fight for gender parity, recognizing that sustainable development and campus growth are impossible without equal representation.

A Vision for the Future
