Cleaning for a Greener Tomorrow: Bishop Jerome Institute NSS Unit 312 Hosts Beach Cleaning Drive

KOLLAM – In a vibrant display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit no: 312 of Bishop Jerome Institute organized a successful Beach Cleaning Drive today, January 31, 2026, at the iconic Kollam Beach.

The initiative, held in association with Harithakarma Sena, saw a dedicated turnout of NSS volunteers who traded their Saturday morning rest for a mission to "Clean Today for a Greener Tomorrow."

A Morning of Action

Starting promptly at 7:00 AM, volunteers arrived equipped and eager to tackle the litter along the shoreline. The drive focused on removing non-biodegradable waste, particularly plastics, which pose a significant threat to the local marine ecosystem.

By the time the event concluded at 10:00 AM, the team had successfully cleared a substantial stretch of the beach, demonstrating that small, collective efforts can indeed make a massive difference.

Key Highlights of the Drive:

  • Collaborative Effort: The partnership with Harithakarma Sena ensured that the collected waste was segregated and disposed of through proper recycling channels.
  • Environmental Awareness: Beyond the physical cleaning, the drive served as a live demonstration of the NSS motto, encouraging locals and tourists to keep the beaches pristine.
  • Volunteer Impact: Dozens of students participated, embodying the spirit of "service above self."

"Our goal wasn't just to pick up trash, but to remind everyone that our oceans need protection. Being the change starts with us, right here on our home coast," said one of the participating NSS volunteers.

Looking Ahead

The Bishop Jerome Institute NSS Unit 312 remains committed to its environmental goals. This beach cleaning drive is part of a series of planned initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and civic responsibility among the youth of Kollam.
