On occasion of
World Habitat Day celebration, a technical talk on “Engaging youth to create
a better urban future” was organized by IE(India) Students’ Chapter of
Civil Engineering Department for the Civil Engineering and Architecture
students of Bishop Jerome Institute, Kollam on the 9th of October
2024 from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm at the 6th floor Seminar Hall.
The session was
handled by Ar. Eugene Pandala who is a well-known Architect known for building
with values of environmental sustainability
The event started
with a silent prayer followed by a welcome address by Ms. Athira Sidharthan,
Faculty coordinator of IE(I) CE students’ chapter BJI. The Honorable speaker was introduced by Sr
Darsana, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BJI Kollam. This
was followed by an eye opening Technical session by Ar Eugene Pandala. In the
session the importance of encouraging the younger generation to participate in the planning of
their current and future surroundings was given emphasis and focused on the crucial role of young people in
shaping the future of cities. It recognized their unique perspectives,
creativity, and potential to drive positive change. The idea that by engaging
youth, we can create more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient urban
environments was highlighted.
This presentation
was followed by a very informative interactive session between the expert and
the audience.
A token of
gratitude was presented to the Chief Guest by the Dean & Head of Civil
Engineering Department, Dr. Sudhi Mary Kurian, to wind up.
Ms. Lekshmi Vijayan, Convenor of IEI students’
chapter, concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks to everyone for
making the session a success.
